Mizuno running shorts offer a premium fit and high-performance materials. They wick moisture well, move with the body as you run, and are made from sustainable materials.
A drawcord around the waist helps keep these premium running shorts comfortably snug, and they have a soft inner brief to support your muscles while you run. Mizuno’s DryLite fabric wicks sweat and dries quickly, which is important in warm weather when you may be sweating more. They also have reflective elements to help you stay visible on the road or trail in low-light conditions.
If you prefer to avoid a waistbelt, these shorts have built-in storage that eliminates the need for a belt and won’t bounce or fall down while you run. They have an impressively large pocket that holds a full soft flask and a smartphone without any bouncing or movement. They are a great option for runners who like to carry extra layers or food on long runs or ultras.
Another plus is that the waistband is wider than many of the other shorts we tested, which makes it more comfortable for runners who don’t want their shorts to dig into or squeeze the lower abdomen. The waistband is also softer than some of the other shorts we tested and is less restrictive for runners with larger stomachs.
The midsole of these running shorts uses a suite of Mizuno’s latest shoe technology, including the new Enerzy foam for energy return and a PEBA wave plate that disperses impact forces for stability. This model also incorporates a carbon rubber outsole for grip and durability. Mizuno says this combination is more responsive than its previous shoe tech, and our testers praised the performance of these shoes on tough trail workouts.
As a bonus, the shoe is a bit lighter than its predecessor thanks to the removal of the U4ic foam. This also makes it a good choice for runners seeking a lightweight, high-performance training shoe.
Mizuno’s signature shoe feature is their wave plate, which is embedded in the midsole of the shoe between layers of cushioning. This curved plastic piece, typically made of thermoplastic polyurethane or polyether block amide (PEBA), acts as a shock absorber, disperses impact forces, and adds stability and spring to the shoe. This design is popular with elite runners and is used in the Mizuno Wave Mujin 9.
Our testers loved these running shorts for their comfort and performance on the trails. The lightweight woven fabric moves and stretches with the body, and the waistband is soft and wide enough to avoid digging into or squeezing the abdomen. They have a built-in mesh liner to help reduce the risk of chafing, and an internal key pocket and a back zippered pocket. These running shorts are a little more expensive than others in our review, but they offer high-performing materials and thoughtful design at a competitive price.
