Back pain is one of the most common reasons people visit the doctor or miss work. It can be incredibly debilitating and can interfere with all aspects of your life. While there are many things you can do to help ease back pain, one of the most effective is strengthening the different muscles in your back. This can help support your spine and prevent further damage. If you’re suffering from back pain, try these three simple, yet effective exercises to reduce it.
Reduce Back Pain With This 3-Minute Home Workout
In just a few minutes, you can strengthen the muscles in your lower back and prevent further injury. These quick exercises are done in the comfort of your own home and can be added to your daily routine. These simple movements will help support your back and improve posture, decreasing stress on the joints and discs in the lumbar region of the spine. This will also help decrease pain and increase mobility and strength of the core muscles.
Start by laying down on the floor, knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Tighten your stomach muscles and raise one leg to the sky until it is parallel with the other, and then return to the starting position. Repeat this for 10 reps, then switch legs.
This is a great way to stretch the front of the upper back, including the rhomboids, lats and pec muscles. It will help to increase mobility of the spine and decrease pressure on the discs.
Lie on the floor, keep the hips level and place one knee to the side. Then slowly roll your back, bringing your shoulder blades down to your hips and then up to the midback. Hold the position for 5 seconds and then release. Repeat the movement for 10 repetitions on each side.
To finish, get up and lift the right foot off the ground. Move forward as if you are marching and then lift the left foot off the ground. Repeat the marching motion for 10 repetitions on each side.
It’s important to remember that back injuries can take time to heal. It is recommended to begin with these exercises gradually and increase your repetitions over time. It is also important to listen to your body and stop if you feel any discomfort while performing these exercises.
While these tips can greatly improve your quality of life, it is important to work closely with a health care provider to treat back injuries and prevent future ones from occurring. If you have a back condition, talk to your doctor before beginning a workout program.
